Au moment de l’agonie, le Lama explique au mourant quelles vont être ses impressions ; il récite des mantras spéciaux et invoque les bénédictions de Bouddha pour sécuriser le mourant et le mettre en confiance. Si l’agonisant est bouddhiste, le Lama lui rappelle les instructions reçues, et lui dit que maintenant est une étape importante dans son parcours spirituel. Après l’arrêt complet de la respiration (mort clinique), le Lama fait le transfert de conscience. Ceci effectué, selon la tradition bouddhiste tibétaine Vajrayana, on fait des offrandes au Bouddha et des rituels, qui sont différents au fil des 49 jours (7 semaines) suivant le décès ; les mérites de ces pratiques sont dédiés au décédé. On s’assure ainsi que tout se déroule bien dans la traversée des différents bardos. La coutume des offrandes et des rituels n’existant pas dans nos régions, le Vénérable Lama a souhaité la création de cette association, car il pense que c’est bien de s’occuper de l’esprit des êtres qui meurent, même si c’est abstrait, et pas seulement de leur dépouille enterrée ou brûlée ; il pense aussi qu’il est important de prier pendant 49 jours, car ainsi on est sûr d’aider l’esprit. Adapter et intégrer cette pratique à la culture occidentale est une bonne chose, car elle nous rend plus humain face aux êtres qui meurent. After completing nine years of full-time study, monks will be qualified to teach at other institutions. The course of studies focuses on the five major texts: Buddhist Logic (Pramana), Middle Path (Madhyamika), Moral Ethics (Vinaya), Wisdom / Ultimate Knowledge (Prajna Paramita), and (loosely translated) Buddhist Science (Abhi Dharma). The monks also attend English, Nepali, and Tibetan Grammar classes, and a computer class has recently been developed for the older monks. Formal education at the Jangchub Choeling Monastery only began two years ago, and all monks are depend on disciples donations in order to cover the cost of food, teachers salaries, and general maintenance.
